About

The mission of the Scouts BSA is to prepare young people
to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes
by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law.

We offer a year-round adventure-based program designed to develop and encourage effective character, citizenship, and fitness training for boys or girls age 11-17.

In addition to camping, Scouts and adult leaders enjoy activities such as rock-climbing and rappelling, backpacking, mountain biking, canoeing, target-shooting, day hikes, and more while accommodating the needs of today’s busy families.

About Us

In early 1950, members of the Oak Grove UMC Community saw a need for the youth program to help with character development, citizenship training, and mental and physical fitness. The Scouts BSA granted a Charter to the Church on May 31, 1950 for Troop 77. Mr. P. B. Ellington became the first Scoutmaster with Mr. C. A. Pounds as the Assistant Scoutmaster. Mr. J. D. Sinclair was the first Institutional Representative and five men made up the first Troop Committee, Misters H. B. Saye (Chairman), I. C. Akin, R. E. Armistead, R. D. McGee, and M. B. Sutton.

Today, the Oak Grove UMC Men's Fellowship sponsors

The Troop averages about 100 Scouts, the Girl Troop 6 scouts, the Pack about 125-200 Cubs and the Venture Club 12-17. Our Scouting ministry reaches all parts of the Community and hundreds of service hours are performed by our Scouts each year. Over the past 60 years, thousands of scouts have enjoyed the Oak Grove UMC's Scouting program, with several hundred Scouts earning the Eagle Scout Award. Their Eagle Scouts have gone on to many of the best colleges and U.S. Military Academies to serve our Country and become leaders in their communities.

Outstanding Unit!

Troop 77 is a Gold level recipient of the Journey to Excellence Award; BSA's performance recognition program that recognizes excellence in providing a quality Scouting program. The program rewards unit success and measures the performance of BSA units. The award is based on many criteria levels such as advancement, membership, training, camping, recruiting, service projects, and others. Congratulations to all and thank you for your support in making this achievement possible!
